Paul Alexander Thornton, a self taught artist, works in biro, pen and pencil on paper. Intricately beautiful with a dark, sometimes humorous undertone. His earliest work to be exhibited in his hometown of Hastings, was a series of tongue in cheek portraits that used a mixture of photo realistic faces drawn in biro with naively drawn bodies decorated with incoherent abstract marks. Since his work has meandered into the territory of intricate flower drawings, and intensely busy and at times abstract hand drawn patterns inspired by Aphex Twin, Venetian Snares & Squarepusher. As well as huge hand drawn repeat patterns using ornate skulls as his subject matter. His work has been seen on Wooster Collective, The New York Times & Vogue aswell as Stolenspace gallery in Brick Lane.
